The trailer for Abigail, which stars Melissa Barrera and the late Angus Cloud in one of his final roles, has dropped. The film, from the directors of Ready or Not and Scream VI, is a blood-soaked monster movie.
A group of kidnappers think they’re in the next big heist movie when they take a 12-year-old ballerina hostage. But she’s more than they bargained for.
The Mansion
Universal Pictures has just unveiled the first trailer for Abigail, the upcoming monster flick from the team behind 2022’s Scream and this year’s Ready or Not. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, also known as Radio Silence, seem to have taken a break from the Ghostface franchise this time around, opting instead to focus on some real-world horrors.
This time, the duo take on a kidnap thriller that centres on a group of criminals who get in way over their heads when they kidnap a young girl who turns out to be a blood-sucking vampire.
The movie’s imposing mansion appears to be the setting for most of the action, and it does an effective job of instilling fear in viewers as it looks like it may hold a dark past that could potentially lead to danger. Its Gothic architecture and dark corners are sure to draw out some eerie emotions, while its cryptic dialogue will leave audiences trying to decipher what’s really going on.
The vumoo film stars Melissa Barrera (Scream, Southbound) as one of the kidnappers, Dan Stevens (The Guest), Kathryn Newton (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud in a posthumous appearance, and Matilda the Musical’s Alisha Weir as the titular vampire who probably has more fangs than teeth. The gruesome-looking flick is set to suck fans in when it comes out on April 19. Watch the trailer below.
The Cast
The cast of Abigail is a collection of rising stars and seasoned veterans. The ensemble looks ready to deliver a stellar performance that will keep audiences at the edge of their seat. The imposing mansion and the unsettling shadows in the corners add to the eerie tone of the trailer. The movie seems to be avoiding tired horror tropes and instead, focusing on building suspense through atmosphere and character development.
Abigail also tries to stay away from the clichéd vampire themes. The director and writers have intentionally kept the main character shrouded in mystery, making the audience speculate who she is. She assures the group that they are safe, but her cryptic dialogue and tense scenes make it possible to speculate that she is holding them against their will or that they might be pawns in her game.
Scream star Melissa Barrera is set to reprise her role as one of the kidnappers in Abigail. She is joined by a number of other familiar faces including Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, and the late Angus Cloud, who died last year after shooting a film for Spyglass called Euphoria.
Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (V/H/S, Southbound) direct the movie from a script by Guy Busick and Stephen Shields. Abigail will be released in US theaters on April 19. Stay tuned to our site for more updates on the film.
The Plot
A chilling new reimagining of classic lore takes shape this April in Abigail, the first trailer for which has bitten into theaters. The movie is the latest from the directing team behind horror hits like Ready or Not and this year’s Scream revival, Radio Silence, and it focuses on a dark legend with a modern twist.
The imposing mansion in the trailer plays a key role in setting the film’s unsettling tone. With its Gothic grandeur and shadows dancing in the corners, it hints at a darker past and dangerous secrets. And while Abigail reassures the group that they are safe, her cryptic dialogue and the mansion setting suggest that she might be holding them against their will.
The cast also adds to the suspense. Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, and the late Angus Cloud are all on board, adding a level of depth to this dark tale.
Abigail will be a feast for viewers’ eyes and ears as well, with its dazzling production design and stunning visual effects. The first trailer for the film has already captivated fans and promises to be a must-see when it sinks its teeth into theaters.
The Horror
The trailer for Abigail has exploded on social media, grabbing the attention of horror fans and driving conversations about the movie. The cryptic dialogue and hidden clues in the teaser have prompted theories about Abigail’s true nature, the dark history of the mansion and what is really lurking inside the cellar.
The film is from the directing team Radio Silence, known for their work on modern horror films including Ready or Not, Devil’s Due and last year’s Scream VI. The duo also helmed segments in the anthology series V/H/S and Southbound.
This new take on vampire lore looks like it will be a bloody good time. The cast is stacked, the premise is unique and it appears to avoid tired horror tropes. Plus, the Gothic grandeur of the mansion and the unsettling shadows that dance in the corners are visually stunning.
The upcoming movie stars Melissa Barrera (Scream), Dan Stevens (Freaky), Kathryn Newton (Black Lightning) and William Catlett (Black Mask). Giancarlo Esposito adds star power, while rising young actress Alisha Weir plays the mysterious title character. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin directed the movie from a screenplay by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick. The film is produced by William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and James Vanderbilt of Project X Entertainment along with Tripp Vinson and Chad Vilella of Radio Silence.
