New Year in Waterford: A Guide to Starting 2024 With a Bang

SHARE

Waterford is a winter wonderland from mid-November right until the start of the new year. The City is glowing with thousands of twinkling lights, creating a cosy atmosphere and a special excitement in the air. Once the Winterval crowds have subsided and Santa has been and gone, what’s left to do in Waterford over the New Year celebrations? Whether you’d like a fun night out with friends or to quietly raise a glass with a loved one at home, Waterford has something for you. Enjoy a comfortable hotel stay this New Year’s Eve when you visit Viking Hotel Waterford, a comfortable stylish hotel on the skirt of the city. We’d be delighted to welcome you to ring in the New Year!

DINING IN WATERFORD

For a relatively small city, we’re spoiled for choice for excellent dining. Many of our favourite spots have dedicated menus for the festive season, but if you’ve had enough turkey and ham, there’s a great selection of international cuisines to look forward to too. We love Everett’s, Emiliano’s and McLeary’s in the city centre. If you don’t want to travel too far, book a table in the stylish hotel restaurant The Wooden Pestle where you’ll be warmly greeted and served the most delicious meal to end the year. All of the good places to eat in the city are guaranteed to be booked out for the most popular nights of the year so book soon to avoid disappointment.

RING IN THE NEW YEAR

If you’re lucky enough to be away from home with a loved one for the countdown, you might want to avoid crowds and queues and start the year as you mean to go on, in peace! The luxury guest rooms in Viking Hotel Waterford will ensure your first sleep of the year is perfect with comfortable bedding and spacious rooms. You can arrange room service dinner and spend the evening watching the countdown and fireworks on the TV, hand in hand with the most important person in your life. Order a bottle of bubbles to celebrate a great year and raise a glass to new beginnings. We’ll be ringing in the New Year in the bar too.

ENCHANTED GARDEN CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Spend your New Year’s evening enjoying the beauty of the Japanese Gardens in Tramore. In its 8th year running, the Enchanted Garden Christmas Lights runs from 1st to 31st December and this is your last chance to catch it in 2023. The Japanese gardens are illuminated with a sea of twinkling fairy lights, animal sculptures and dramatic tree and foliage lighting. It’s a truly magical experience and the largest winter light festival of its kind in the country. The Victorian Garden brings old-world charm to the festival and encourages the imagination of guests young and old. Meet the Winter Fairy on your journey or stop by the open fire and enjoy Hot Chocolate or Gluhwein to warm up on a chilly evening. What a lovely way to mark the last day of 2023.

HIKE OR CYCLE THE GREENWAY

Start 2024 as you mean to go on with a day of fun and activity. Borrow, rent or bring your own bike and start your day with a long cycle on the brilliant Waterford Greenway. Enjoy the most stunning views with features like 11 bridges, three viaducts and a 400-metre tunnel along the way on the greenway. The route runs between the city of Waterford, Mount Congreve, Kilmeaden, Kilmacthomas, and Dungarvan, and passes along part of the Copper Coast. At 46 km, it is Ireland’s longest greenway and a great kick-start for your healthy 2024 resolutions! Our location very close to the Greenway makes Viking Hotel Waterford the ideal accommodation for an active start to the New Year.
